Beside the Sea - Louise Courtnell
July to September 2007

Born in Plymouth, Louise has lived for many years at her studio upon the cliffs of Whitsand. An acclaimed figurative and landscape artist Louise has exhibited widely including on many occasions at the National Portrait Gallery BP Portrait Award and “The Discerning Eye” at The Mall Galleries, London. Through careful observation, the landscape paintings subtly and sensitively capture the tones, colours and shapes of the rapidly changing seas and skies. Her works past and present are encapsulations of the very essence of the Rame Peninsula. Louise is an artist closely engaged with the community, an ongoing major project is the painting from life portraits recording residents of Kingsand and Cawsand born between the World Wars.
